CALL ME MILES

52min

Genre:  Documentary Drama

Marguerite Robinson and Deon Maree's child was a happy little girl. She was intelligent, curious, loving and content. They were proud parents and Afrikaans Girls' High School in Pretoria could best develop their child’s potential. High school coincided with puberty and Miles Robinson felt increasingly uneasy in his environment and also in his own body. The carefree child turned into a morbid adolescent who, in self-rejection, resorted to self-harm (cutting) and repeatedly tried to take his own life. He was a boy in a girl's body and hated himself.

Call me Miles is the story of a middle-class Afrikaans family with extraordinary challenges. It is a brutal story of shock, struggle, change and acceptance. It tells how ordinary people deal with their child's trauma, pain, depression and self-hatred. The film cuts to the bone.

Call me Miles explores the life of a transgender individual from infancy to surgery where a total mastectomy was the only way out.

We meet his friends, also his best friend from nursery school who later emigrated to Brisbane. They played together as little girls and Lawrence, unaware of Miles' circumstances, also went through a gender transition. They meet 12 years later as young transgender men.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE ARCHIVE

The Beige Ford Cortina album was nominated for a Ghoema Afrikaans Music Award in the Contemporary Album section by a female artist.

A YouTube Winner !!
July 20 was a BFC affair

"A Beige Ford Cortina", the music video of Marlise Scheepers (SjefSnoekie) with Riaan Cruywagen and Mariëtta Kruger, exceeded our greatest expectations.  When we last had a look, the YouTube music video already had over 170 000 hits!
The whole production was completed within 24 hours and we are MAD about the end product: a silly song, tongue in cheek and a nice send-up.

DIE BELEEFNIS

26min

Genre:   Tragicomedy

Die Beleefnis is the story of an idiosyncratic old lady who turns the town on its head when she announces out of the blue that she wants to hold her own funeral! Then she still has the audacity to describe it as a "celebration of her life". "Actually not a funeral", she corrected people. "It's more like a celebration!" The people in town has always accepted that the enthusiastic Magdaleen Botha (Woutrine Theron) is a little mad in the head, but this strange request takes things too far. However, Magdalene is unstoppable and very stubborn. Neither her difficult son, Simon (André Odendaal), Dominee Stanley (Chris van Niekerk) or even Stoffel the funeral director (Erno van Dyk) will stop her from planning her big day. How will they be able to? After all, they have no idea of the actual reason for Magdaleen's 'celebration'...
